Book a walkthroughCommon questions
- What goes on an equipment inspection checklist?
- The parts that fail and hurt people: structure, controls, brakes, guards, alarms, leaks, tires or tracks and safety devices. Good ones also check the work area. Each sheet here is a starting point. Add the lines your machine's manual and your site's procedure call for.
- How often should equipment be inspected?
- Most mobile equipment is checked before each use or shift. Lifting gear, scaffolds, extinguishers and eyewash stations follow their own schedules. The maker's manual, the standards that apply and your own procedure set the schedule, so check them.
- Can I change these checklists?
- Yes. Each one downloads as PDF, Word and Excel. Edit the Word or Excel file to match your equipment, or print the PDF as it is. To build one from scratch, use the free checklist builder.
- What do I do when a machine fails a check?
- Stop using it, tag it out of service, tell your supervisor and write down what failed. It goes back after it's repaired and checked. A failed check is the checklist doing its job.
