A belt loader inspection checklist for the ramp.

Check the loader before it goes to an aircraft. Test the stop and the controls, not just look at them. Print the sheet or save it as a PDF.

How to use it

Three habits that make it worth filling out.

  1. Step 1

    Test it, don't just look

Run the belt, hit the stop, set the brake. A control that looks fine can still fail when you need it.

  2. Step 2

    Check the bumpers

Bumpers are what touch the aircraft. If they're worn through or loose, don't approach with that unit.

  3. Step 3

    Tag a failed unit

Tag it, tell the lead and park it away from working equipment. It comes back after it's repaired and checked.

Do this on a phone instead of paper.

Run this check on a phone, with a photo on any failed step, no signal needed. A failed step opens a repair and the record is kept for you.

Common questions

How often should a belt loader be inspected?
Before use, at the start of a shift or when the operator changes. Your airline, ground handler and the maker's manual set the full schedule. This sheet covers the operator's pre-use check.
What should I do if the emergency stop doesn't work?
Don't use the loader. Tag it out of service and tell your lead. An emergency stop that doesn't work is a safety failure, not a repair to do later.
Does this cover every belt loader?
It's a base. Models differ in controls, guards and how the boom moves. Add lines from the maker's manual and drop what doesn't apply.
