The climb check happens at the base of the tower, not back at the shop.

PortalBase puts the pre-climb check, the rescue plan, the truck inspection and the install record on the climber's phone. They work on the monopole, in the manhole and down a gravel road with one bar. Everything saves on the phone and syncs when signal comes back.

What a telecom crew opens first.

Today’s tasks, the training that’s due, the checks and the forms. The tiles and the work are set up for Harrowgate Tower and Fiber, a made-up company. Yours would be set up for your crews.

The paperwork

What your crew leads fill out today

01

Pre-climb check. Hazards on the structure, weather, who's climbing, who's on the ground. Attach the rescue plan to the question it belongs to and collect signatures from the crew.

02

Install and splice record. Address or site ID, what was run, what was spliced, photos of the finished work. The record carries the tech who did it.

03

Tailgate talk. Pick the topic, record who was there, get signatures on a phone. Weekly talks assign themselves to every crew lead.

04

Near miss and incident report. A dropped tool, a close call at a roadside cabinet, an injury. Anyone on the crew files it from the phone, with photos.

Signal and crew

The tower is a long way from the office. The sub's tech doesn't have your email.

On the route

Rural right-of-way, a rooftop, a vault under the street. The forms, courses and checklists are already on the phone. Install photos and video upload later, in the background, and pick up where they stopped.

On the crew

Your own climbers, a contractor's installers, a tech who started Monday. Sign them in by text code, by employee ID and PIN, or by QR badge on a shared tablet. Each record carries the person who did the work, not the device.

In the truck

Vehicle checks and ladder checks run on the same phone. The crew lead sees which trucks went out checked and which didn't.

A day on one route

From the yard to the as-built

  1. Step 1

    Before the truck rolls.

The crew lead opens Today. The truck check and the tailgate talk are due before the crew leaves the yard.

  2. Step 2

    At the structure.

Pre-climb check, gear scan, rescue plan. A Fail on a lanyard takes it out of service and notifies the foreman.

  3. Step 3

    On the install.

Splice and drop records go in from the phone, with photos. If there's no signal, they wait on the phone.

  4. Step 4

    In the office.

The safety lead sees which crews filled out their paperwork and which didn't, then opens any record behind the number.

Straight answers

Can a contractor's tech use it without a company email?
Yes. Crews without email sign in by text code, by employee ID and PIN, or by QR badge on a shared device. The company picks which.
Does it replace climb training and rescue practice?
No. Courses and skill checks record what was taught and shown. Climbing and rescue skills are learned on a tower with a trainer, and that stays in person.
Does it make a crew compliant?
No. It records and organizes the evidence: who, when, where, what was checked. Your rules and the rules of the bodies that apply to you still decide what compliant means.
