Mining and quarrying

The workplace exam gets written down where you found the problem, not back at the scale house.

PortalBase puts the workplace exam, the haul truck check, the site training record and the incident form on the phone. They work at the face, at the crusher and at the far end of the pit. Everything saves on the phone and syncs when signal comes back.

What a mining and quarrying crew opens first.

Today’s tasks, the training that’s due, the checks and the forms. The tiles and the work are set up for Quillon Ridge Aggregate, a made-up company. Yours would be set up for your crews.

The paperwork

What your supervisors and operators fill out today

01

Workplace exam record. Area, conditions found, who examined, what was fixed. Attach the photo to the question it belongs to. The record carries the person who signed it.

02

Site training record. New hire, contractor, visitor. Record what was taught, who taught it and who signed. Refreshers assign themselves when the date comes up.

03

Pre-shift equipment check. One form per machine type. Defects carry a photo and a note, and the shop sees them before the next shift.

04

Incident and near miss report. A rock fall, a close call at the dump, an injury. Anyone files it from the phone, with photos and who was involved.

Signal and crew

The pit doesn't get bars. The contractor's driver doesn't have your email.

In the pit

Bottom of the quarry, behind the highwall, the far end of the haul road. The forms, courses and checklists are already on the phone. Photos and video upload later, in the background, and pick up where they stopped.

On the crew

Your own operators, a contractor's drivers, a driller for the week. Sign them in by text code, by employee ID and PIN, or by QR badge on a shared tablet at the scale house. Each record carries the person who did the work, not the device.

At the gate

Visitors and haulers scan a QR code and fill out the sign-in or hazard form with no login. If you mark the form anonymous, it collects no name and no device ID.

A day on one shift

From the pre-shift to the exam record

  1. Step 1

    Before the first haul.

The operator opens Today. The pre-shift check and the safety talk are due before the machine moves.

  2. Step 2

    On the exam.

The supervisor walks the pit and the plant. Concerns and Fails go in with a photo and open a corrective action.

  3. Step 3

    End of shift.

Exam records and equipment defects stay in the site's log for the next crew.

  4. Step 4

    In the office.

The safety lead sees which shifts filled out their paperwork and which didn't, then opens any record behind the number.

Straight answers

Can a contractor's drivers use it without a company email?
Yes. Crews without email sign in by text code, by employee ID and PIN, or by QR badge on a shared device. The company picks which.
Does it replace hands-on training on a machine or in the pit?
No. Courses and skill checks record what was taught and shown. Where the work needs a trainer on the machine or on the ground, that still happens in person.
Does it make a site compliant?
No. It records and organizes the evidence: who, when, where, what was examined. Your rules and the rules of the bodies that apply to you still decide what compliant means.
