How to use it

Three habits that make it worth filling out.

  1. Step 1

    Check the ground first

Look at where the truck sits before you set the outriggers. Soft ground, a slope or a hidden void changes the setup.

  2. Step 2

    Test the emergency lowering

Run the lower controls and the emergency lowering before the first lift. Don't wait for a bad day to find out they don't work.

  3. Step 3

    Keep a damaged truck down

If an insulating part is damaged, dirty or past its test date, the truck doesn't work near energized lines. Tag it and report it.

Do this on a phone instead of paper.

Run this check on a phone, with a photo on any failed step, no signal needed. A failed step opens a repair and the record is kept for you.

Common questions

How often are insulating parts tested?
On a schedule set by the current standard, the maker and your own program. This sheet only checks that the part is current on that schedule. The test itself is done by a qualified person.
Does this replace the vehicle pre-trip?
No. It covers the lift equipment. Run a vehicle pre-trip as well. For commercial vehicles, check the current FMCSA rule, 49 CFR 396, for what must be inspected and recorded.
Who can work from the bucket near power lines?
Only qualified people, working to your company's procedures. This checklist doesn't set distances or methods. Your program does.
