Which OSHA training rules should you look at?

Answer yes or no about the work your people do. The quiz lists the training rules that come up, with the section, who it reaches and how often it repeats. Then send them to a training matrix.

How it works

  • Answer the questions about your work. Start with whether it's construction, because the construction rules are separate.
  • Each yes brings up the rule. Each rule links to its text on eCFR, with who it reaches and how often it repeats.
  • Add the list to the free training matrix builder, or start from the Excel matrix, and enter dates.

What it doesn't do

  • It lists rules to look at. It doesn't say what applies to your site: that comes from your work, your hazard assessment and the standards. It covers a set of common federal rules, not every standard, and state rules can differ. It isn't legal advice.
  • Nothing you answer is saved or sent.

Common questions

Does OSHA publish a list of required training by job?
Not by job title. OSHA's standards require training where a hazard or equipment is covered. This quiz starts from the hazards, and the page on OSHA training by job maps ten common jobs to the rules.
Is this every OSHA training requirement?
No. It covers a set of common federal rules we've read on eCFR. Other standards have training too, and states can add their own. Ask OSHA or your safety advisor when in doubt.
What happens when I add the rules to the matrix?
The training names go into the free training matrix builder as columns, on this device. You add your people and mark who's trained and who's verified.
