How to use it

Three habits that make it worth filling out.

  1. Step 1

    Walk it all

Don't stop at the trailer and the front gate. Go to the back corner, the roof edge and the area nobody's working in.

  2. Step 2

    Talk to the crew

Ask what worries them. They see hazards before they land on any sheet.

  3. Step 3

    Close the list

Every problem gets an owner and a date. Check last week's list first, and note what's still open.

Do this on a phone instead of paper.

Run this check on a phone, with a photo on any failed step, no signal needed. A failed step opens a repair and the record is kept for you.

Common questions

How often should a site safety inspection be done?
Your company and the rules that apply to you decide. Many sites do a general walk at least weekly, with daily checks on high-risk items like scaffolds and excavations.
Who should do the site inspection?
Someone who knows the work and the hazards, such as a safety lead or superintendent. Some items, like scaffolds and excavations, need a competent person. Check the current rules.
Does this checklist cover everything on my site?
No. It's a general starting point. Add lines for your site's own hazards, your permits and your company's procedures. Remove what doesn't apply.
