Common questions

What goes in a JSA?
The job, its steps in order, the hazards at each step and the controls that deal with them, who's responsible, and the crew's sign-on.
Does this replace a permit?
No. A JSA sits alongside permits, lockout and other required procedures. It covers the specifics of the task in front of the crew.
How many steps should a JSA have?
As many as the job needs, and no more. Most jobs break into five to ten steps. Keep each step short and specific.
